Never Mind

The U.S. government has said “never mind” regarding cholesterol in the diet.  The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion issued it’s 2015 report.  In that report, the committee states “Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.”  Its hard to overstate what an enormous change of official policy this would represent if the implications of that statement are fully embraced by the agencies of the government that influence nutrition and health.  That essentially repudiates the heart diet hypothesis that was the basis of Ancel Keys flawed research and the 1977 Dietary Goals for the United States referenced on the Good Intentions, Bad Policy page.  Here’s Nina Teicholz excellent summation of recent changes in policy–
